Our Girls’ Basketball team left their mark on Wyomissing Area athletics this year, earning the team’s first County Championship and District Championship titles in school history. Led by seniors and team captains Maddie Campbell, Lexi Loeb, and Kaitlyn Brunner, our Spartans have had a very successful season. Congratulations to our Spartan athletes and coaches for this outstanding achievement.​

Wyomissing Area Welcomes New Faculty

Students who achieve top scores on the PSAT/NMSQT standardized tests in their junior year have the opportunity to receive recognition from the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Earlier this year, freshman Benjamin Zobian represented Wyomissing Area at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, DC for the second year in a row.

This week’s featured Internship focuses on Senior Emily Arndt who is interested in working in a small-office setting after graduation. She chose to intern in the guidance office because she felt she could gain valuable experience from guidance secretary Mrs. Melissa Kassl-Lupold and the Wyomissing Area Senior High School guidance counselors.

This week’s featured Internship focuses on Junior Katie Riddle who enjoys helping others and is interested in a career in speech/language pathology. She chose to intern in Emily Emerson’s Life Skills and Autistic Support classroom so that she could become comfortable with the students there.

On March 2 and 3, Wyomissing Area Senior High School hosted its seventh annual Mini-THON. Based on the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, more commonly known as THON, the Wyomissing Area Mini-THON has raised more than $250,000 since it began. Proceeds are donated to Four Diamonds Fund, which fights against pediatric cancer.

This year, Wyomissing Area High School students used their art skills to help the community in collaboration with Opportunity House. Led by art teacher Laura Zamperini, students created ceramic bowls and donated them to Opportunity House for its annual Souper Bowl Fundraiser. Each person who attends the yearly event receives a donated bowl as well as a light meal of soup. Attendees also enjoy a silent auction. All funds earned benefit programs offered by Opportunity House.

More than 25 student performers took center stage during the Wyomissing Area Music Association’s (WAMA) Sweet Sunday Showcase. This coffee-house style venue featured performances by talented musicians from the Wyomissing Hills Elementary, West Reading Elementary, and the Junior Senior High School. Donations from the event will support the District’s K-12 Music Department.

Art students paint portraits. English students write biographies. And physics students calculate the distance and velocity of an angry bird in flight. This year students in Dr. Brian Liskey’s ninth-grade physics class used the popular gaming app, Angry Birds, to learn about forces in motion.

The District is proud to announce senior Emma Woerle has been selected as a candidate for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program!

The Wyomissing Area High School Public Arts Workshop has been encouraging students to use their artistic talents to help the community for more than a decade. This year the Public Arts Workshop continued the tradition by connecting with Habitat for Humanity, Opportunity House, and Neo-Pangea.

After correctly spelling “vacuousness,” eighth-grade student Katherine Kaufmann became the winner of the Wyomissing Area Junior Senior High School’s 2019 Spelling Bee. It was a hard-fought win, as Katherine went back and forth for multiple rounds with fellow eighth-grade student—and last year’s Spelling Bee winner—Benjamin Zobian.

Students in Mrs. Emily Emerson’s life-skills class begin each day with morning assignments. One of the most anticipated activities this year is the newly implemented Snack Attack, a mobile snack service operated entirely by students.

Once again, the Wyomissing Area School District is being honored by the College Board with inclusion in its 9th Annual Advanced Placement® District Honor Roll. To be listed on the honor roll, Wyomissing Area School District had to increase the number of WASD students participating in Advanced Placement (AP) courses since 2016 while also increasing or maintaining the percentage of students earning AP Exam scores of 3 or higher.

This year, Wyomissing Area Junior Senior High School will implement a new student internship program, bridging the gap between school and college or career readiness.

For the last few years, Wyomissing Area Junior/Senior High School has kicked off each new year with an assembly on internet safety and digital responsibility.

Congratulations to fifteen Wyomissing Area High School students in grades 10, 11, and 12, who were chosen for the Music Educators of Berks County (MEBC) 2019 Senior High County Chorus. These students auditioned for only 25 positions in each voice part against hundreds of students from every public HS in the Berks County.

During the first week of school, students in Mr. Alex Krick’s math classes at Wyomissing Area JSHS were greeted not with complex arithmetic problems, but with the marshmallow and spaghetti tower challenge.

The YWCA Tri-County Area honored 17 girls at its annual Tribute to Exceptional Girls at a brunch this past spring. Modeled after YWCA Tri-County Area’s long-running and successful Tribute to Exceptional Women, Tribute to Exceptional Girls honors the achievements and accomplishments of girls who have an impact on their peers, in their schools, and in their communities.

During Wyomissing Area Senior High’s 94th commencement ceremony, 167 graduates received their diplomas on Friday, June 2. Student speakers included Valedictorian Matthew Driben, Salutatorian and President of the Class of 2018 Joseph Cullen, Secretary of the Class of 2018 Samuel Botterbusch, and Treasurer of the Class of 2018 Lauren Gechter.

The banners touting county, district, and state championships that hang in the new gym, like the trophies standing proud in the archive room, reflect a tradition of athletic excellence and student-athlete participation at Wyomissing Area JSHS. Tradition built success. these are the words athletic director Mr. Frank Ferrandino uses when he is asked to describe the school’s athletic program.

With intense curiosity and open minds, six Wyomissing Area High School juniors jumped at the opportunity to participate in Senator Judy Schwank’s h-annual Berks County Model Senate program. Maggie Ferrandino, Vittoria D’Addesi, Erin Drebushenko, Chloe Gehret, Sarah Fleischood, and Emily Weidner are members of Mr. Joe Alcaro’s AP US Government and Politics class.

Wyomissing Area High School senior Hunter Niedrowski represented the school in the javelin event at this year’s Penn Relays. It is believed to be the first time in the history of WAHS that the school was represented at the annual national track and field competition.

It was youth versus experience as Wyomissing Area JSHS seventh and eighth grade students played a friendly game of basketball against the faculty.

Now in its 26th year, the Pennsylvania State Academic Competition provides an opportunity for students to compete in a "college-bowl" format, answering a variety of challenging questions from several categories including literature, math, science, American and world history, geography, fine arts, and current events.
