Dear Wyomissing Area JSHS Parents/Guardians

Good afternoon Wyomissing Area families, I hope this message finds everyone healthy, safe, and well.  As all Pennsylvania schools remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, we will continue to move forward with on-line instruction, communicate all updates as we receive them, and work in collaboration with our students and staff in an effort to best support them.

Instruction Update:
All students are expected to log on to Schoology and check their WASD emails every day and communicate with their teachers when necessary. All teachers will continue to post resources and assignments to Schoology at least three days per week.

Teachers will continue to be available between the hours of 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. for our students to contact them with any questions.
Email  [email protected] to submit a help request to the technology department.
Despite the school closure, it is our responsibility and expectation that every student participates in learning and instruction from now through the end of the school year on June 5, 2020.  All assignments will count toward your final grades for the 4th marking period and are expected to be completed.
May 25 is a holiday for students and staff; no work will be assigned and there will be no lunch distribution on this day.
By the time you read this you only have 10 days of on-line instruction left so stay busy and finish strong.

Locker Cleanout:
Wyomissing Area Jr./Sr. High School locker cleanout will take place from Tuesday, May 19 through Friday, May 29, weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Groups of 10 students at a time may sign up for one 15 minute shift via Signup Genius on the Jr./Sr. High School homepage at http://wasdwjsh.ss18.sharpschool.com/.
Students will enter the building at the main entrance by the flagpole where they will check-in when they enter the front lobby for their respective timeframe. No student will be allowed in the building outside of his/her registered timeframe and no family members will be permitted in the building. If a student needs assistance carrying any items out, help will be provided.
Students are expected to arrive on time for their appointment with a face mask, gloves, and a bag to store their items. We will also have these items available in the front lobby.  Students will be given no more than 10 minutes to clean out their lockers and then must promptly exit the building at Door 7, in the English wing.  This is the same entrance that students use to enter the building from bus drop off in the morning.
We are not collecting books and school assigned items during locker cleanouts; we will send communications regarding collection at a later date.
Field House Lockers:  The following are dates and times available for any student needing to collect their personal belongings in the Field House lockers rooms:
Tuesday, May 19th: 10:00a.m.-11:30 a.m.
Thursday, May 21st: 10:00a.m. -11:30 a.m.
Tuesday, May 26th: 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Thursday, May 28th: 10:00 a.m. -11:30 a.m.

During the designated times, we ask that students enter through the weight room door where you will sign-in with a staff member, collected your items from the locker room, and exit through the training room doors facing the practice field.  To continue to abide by social distancing guidelines, we ask that no one park in the Field house parking lot.
Students will be given 5 minutes to collect their personal items and exit the Field House. We ask that there are no gatherings or conversations that keep you on the campus for more than the allotted time. We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to adhere to the guidelines and continue to practice social-distancing.

Attention Seniors:
A reminder to please see the Class of 2020 Schoology page for important information about completing the Senior Exit Survey in Naviance.  ALL SENIORS must complete this exit survey by Monday, May 18th.  In addition to gathering important required data that the Counseling Office must track, this is also the way in which seniors request a final transcript be sent to their attending college. Any senior who needs a transcript sent to more than one college or to NCAA should e-mail Mrs. Gockley at [email protected] . An email to her is only necessary if a final transcript needs to go to more than one institution.
While we will not be able to celebrate the graduation of the class of 2020 on June 5th, your senior classmates are working hard at completing our annual senior video. We are working on hosting a Senior Video viewing on our original commencement date, Friday, June 5, 2020, drive-in style with a 40’ screen so students can watch the video safely in their cars. Students will be able to listen to the movie on a designated FM radio station at the Body Zone located at 3103 Papermill Rd. Reading, PA 19610.  We greatly appreciate the Body Zone for offering to host this event, and will have more detailed information on this event in future updates.

Attention Juniors:

Please watch the video on your Class of 2021 Schoology page for important reminders and post-secondary planning updates from Mrs. Quinlivan and Mrs. Mayberry.  It is now time to start checking items off of the To-Do list generated at the Junior Conference.  Also, it is time to request letters of recommendation from teachers. On Schoology, we have posted sample e-mails that could be used to generate the request. Please remember to take care of this ASAP as teachers will not be available during the summer. Reach out to your counselor with any questions or concerns as you continue your post-secondary planning.

WAMA Awards
The annual WAMA Awards program to celebrate all of the music programs in Wyomissing, recognize musical leaders in grades 7-12, and show appreciation for our seniors will take place virtually on Tuesday, May 19th at 7:00 pm.  The program will include previously recorded performances from the Orchestra, Jazz Band, Camerata, and other select ensembles. The link for the program will be available by Tuesday morning.

Yearbooks:
Yearbooks have arrived and can be picked up during your locker cleanout time.  When you check-in for your locker appointment, let us know you are also here for your yearbook and we will have it for you in the main lobby. Seniors: if your locker is empty, there is no need to schedule an appointment to pick up your yearbook; we can distribute them during cap and gown distribution.

Lunch/Breakfast:
We will continue to serve meals at all three buildings on Mondays (for Monday and Tuesday) and Wednesdays (for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday).  Come see us at any of our three buildings between 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.; we love to see our students.
Please note: there is no meal distribution on May 25th due to the holiday.
