Dear Wyomissing Area JSHS Parents/Guardians

Good afternoon Wyomissing Area families, I hope this message finds everyone healthy, safe, and well.  As all Pennsylvania schools remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, we will continue to move forward with on-line instruction, communicate all updates as we receive them, and work in collaboration with our students and staff in an effort to best support them.

Instruction Update:
All students are expected to log on to Schoology and check their WASD emails every day and communicate with their teachers when necessary. All teachers will continue to post resources and assignments to Schoology at least three days per week.

Teachers will continue to be available between the hours of 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. for our students to contact them with any questions.
Email  [email protected] to submit a help request to the technology department.
Despite the school closure, it is our responsibility and expectation that every student participates in learning and instruction from now through the end of the school year on June 5, 2020.  All assignments will count toward your final grades for the 4th marking period and are expected to be completed.
May 25th is a holiday for students and staff; no work will be assigned.
There is no lunch distribution scheduled for May 25th. Meal distribution will take place on May 27th, June 1st, and June 3rd, from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm at the front entrance of each school.
June 1-5 there will be no new instruction or assignments for students.  Students will have this week to make up any missed work, and teachers will still be available during their office hours.
By the time you read this you only have 4 days of on-line instruction left so stay busy and finish strong.

Locker Cleanout:
Wyomissing Area Jr./Sr. High School locker cleanout will continue to take place from Monday, May 25th through Friday, May 29th, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Groups of 10 students at a time may sign up for one 15 minute shift via Signup Genius on the Jr./Sr. High School homepage at http://wasdwjsh.ss18.sharpschool.com/.
Students will enter the building at the main entrance by the flagpole where they will check-in when they enter the front lobby for their respective timeframe. No student will be allowed in the building outside of his/her registered timeframe and no family members will be permitted in the building. If a student needs assistance carrying any items out, help will be provided.
Students are expected to arrive on time for their appointment with a face mask, gloves, and a bag to store their items. We will also have these items available in the front lobby.  Students will be given no more than 10 minutes to clean out their lockers and then must promptly exit the building at Door 7, in the English wing.  This is the same entrance that students use to enter the building from bus drop off in the morning.
We are not collecting books and school assigned items during locker cleanouts; we will send communications regarding collection at a later date.

Field House Lockers:  The following are dates and times available for any student needing to collect their personal belongings in the Field House lockers rooms:
Tuesday, May 26th: 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Thursday, May 28th: 10:00 a.m. -11:30 a.m.
During the designated times, we ask that students enter through the weight room door where you will sign-in with a staff member, collect your items from the locker room, and exit through the training room doors facing the practice field. To continue to abide by social distancing guidelines, we ask that no one park in the Field house parking lot.
Students will be given 5 minutes to collect their personal items and exit the Field House. We ask that there are no gatherings or conversations that keep you on the campus for more than the allotted time. We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to adhere to the guidelines and continue to practice social-distancing.

Guidance Office Updates:
Seniors:  Reminder ~  all seniors must complete the Counseling Office Senior Exit Survey ASAP.  Details about how to complete this survey can be found on the Class of 2020 Schoology page.
Juniors: Registration for the August, September and October SAT administrations opens on Tuesday, May 26th.  Seating for testing is currently limited due to spacing required between students. This means that some test centers, including Wyomissing, will reach capacity sooner. Students should register as soon as possible through their College Board accounts. Any student who does not remember his/her College Board log in information should e-mail Mrs. Quinlivan at [email protected]. Please remember not to set-up a second College Board account.

Attention Seniors:
The Class of 2020 "Senior Movie" will make its world premier on Friday, June 5th at 8:30 p.m. at the Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex (3103 Papermill Rd, Reading, PA 19610). The presentation will be hosted in a drive-in format, with a 40' screen and FM sound provided by FunFlicks, Inc. and will last approximately one hour. Due to limited parking, this is a seniors-only event. We are also asking for only one car per family and all attendees will be asked to remain in their vehicles at all times to comply with social distancing requirements. Seniors and their families should begin to arrive around 8:10 p.m. This information has also been posted on the Class of 2020 Schoology page. We thank the Body Zone for hosting this event for us as well as Redner’s Markets for helping to fund this event for our seniors.
Commencement is still planned for July 31, 2020. We are developing several different options of what the 2020 commencement will look like according to the direction and restrictions given to us by the State guidelines.  Seniors will be given a chance to review and provide feedback on the possible options when they pick up their caps and gowns.  Any students who wish to not participate in commencement in July may pick up their diplomas after June 5th by appointment at the high school.

Seniors: if your locker is empty, there is no need to schedule an appointment to pick up your yearbook; we can distribute them during cap and gown distribution.

Distance Learning Surveys:

With the rapid shift to distance learning due to COVID-19, schools across the country have been facing unforeseen challenges and have been working to respond to community needs. Panorama for Distance Learning has created a comprehensive survey that includes questions which address the social, emotional, and academic needs of students, families, and staff in this adjusted school landscape. Wyomissing Area School District is requesting the input of parents, educators and students. Our district’s educators will analyze the results to drive action planning as we look forward to the re-opening of schools, improve student and staff connectedness online, and deliver 1:1 social-emotional and well-being supports for students.  The link to the parent survey is: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScpdTLpgludy6WT_J0be2uIPK6CRuWF3o7CdTamEbsnJoPVSQ/viewform?usp=sf_link
