Spartan Girls’ Basketball Program Wins First County and District Championships

Our Girls’ Basketball team left their mark on Wyomissing Area athletics this year, earning the team’s first County Championship and District Championship titles in school history. Led by seniors and team captains Maddie Campbell, Lexi Loeb, and Kaitlyn Brunner, our Spartans have had a very successful season. Congratulations to our Spartan athletes and coaches for this outstanding achievement.​

WYOAREA High School’s Mini-THON Exceeds Goal

On March 2 and 3, Wyomissing Area Senior High School hosted its seventh annual Mini-THON. Based on the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, more commonly known as THON, the Wyomissing Area Mini-THON has raised more than $250,000 since it began. Proceeds are donated to Four Diamonds Fund, which fights against pediatric cancer.

JSHS Students Participate in the “Souper Bowl"

This year, Wyomissing Area High School students used their art skills to help the community in collaboration with Opportunity House. Led by art teacher Laura Zamperini, students created ceramic bowls and donated them to Opportunity House for its annual Souper Bowl Fundraiser. Each person who attends the yearly event receives a donated bowl as well as a light meal of soup. Attendees also enjoy a silent auction. All funds earned benefit programs offered by Opportunity House.

More than 25 student performers took center stage during the Wyomissing Area Music Association’s (WAMA) Sweet Sunday Showcase. This coffee-house style venue featured performances by talented musicians from the Wyomissing Hills Elementary, West Reading Elementary, and the Junior Senior High School. Donations from the event will support the District’s K-12 Music Department.

After correctly spelling “vacuousness,” eighth-grade student Katherine Kaufmann became the winner of the Wyomissing Area Junior Senior High School’s 2019 Spelling Bee. It was a hard-fought win, as Katherine went back and forth for multiple rounds with fellow eighth-grade student—and last year’s Spelling Bee winner—Benjamin Zobian.

Once again, the Wyomissing Area School District is being honored by the College Board with inclusion in its 9th Annual Advanced Placement® District Honor Roll. To be listed on the honor roll, Wyomissing Area School District had to increase the number of WASD students participating in Advanced Placement (AP) courses since 2016 while also increasing or maintaining the percentage of students earning AP Exam scores of 3 or higher.
