April 9, 2020

Dear Wyomissing Area JSHS Parents/Guardians:

Instruction Update:

Our online instruction will continue next Monday, April 13.  All teachers will continue to post resources and assignments at least three days per week to Schoology.  Students must continue to check their WASD email, log on to Schoology daily, submit completed work, and communicate with their teachers.

Teachers will continue to be available between the hours of 10:00-12:00 p.m. and 1:00-3:00 p.m. for our students to contact them with any questions.

Students should be reviewing all of their classes in Schoology, this includes the quarter courses, semester courses, electives, and physical education. If you have any questions regarding these classes or others please reach out to your teacher; they are here to help.

Home Access Center Reminder:

Now more than ever, communication between home and school is the key to virtual academic success.  In order to ensure that everyone is receiving district communications in a timely manner please log onto the Home Access Center (HAC) at the link below to update any email addresses and/or telephone numbers for the home.

 Advanced Placement Updates:

The policy of Wyomissing AP Policy states that students enrolled in an AP course must also take the AP exam in order to receive AP designation and weighting on their transcript. However, due to the unprecedented events and the subsequent changes to AP exam content and test format, students who choose not to take the AP exam for a particular course will not be penalized on their transcript. This change in policy only applies to the 2019-2020 school year. While the district still encourages students to follow through with AP testing, College Board is allowing students to cancel their AP test and waiving the $40 cancellation fee. To cancel students must call College Board Customer Service. The district cannot cancel a test for a student without payment penalty. However, any student who cancels a test must notify Mrs. Gockley in writing by emailing [email protected]. Refunds will be processed after the school building resumes normal operations.

Please note, students who cancel an exam will still be enrolled in their AP courses at Wyomissing Area. No student may drop a full year course during the second semester per the Program of Studies. Students must fulfill all course requirements and will be graded accordingly through the last day of the school year.

Webex:

Student iPads will be enabled with the Webex app as an additional platform for communication between students and teachers.  Webex is a secure enterprise solution for video conferencing and online meetings.  The Webex app will be automatically installed on your student’s school device the next time it is online and checks in with our management systems.   The installation may not happen immediately and may take longer depending upon the battery strength of the device and internet bandwidth.  Student specific instructions will be shared on each grade level’s Schoology page.

Lunch/Breakfast:
We will continue to serve meals at all three buildings on Mondays (for Monday and Tuesday) and Wednesdays (for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday).  Come see us at any of our three buildings between 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.; we love to see our students.
