Dear Wyomissing Area JSHS Parents/Guardians
Good afternoon Wyomissing Area families, I hope this message finds everyone healthy, safe,
and well. Today marks the end of our academic year. We are very appreciative of the combined
efforts of our faculty, students, and parents who worked together to make the best of a very
challenging and unforeseen end of the school year. We will continue to work hard over the
summer to be ready for the start of next school year and will communicate what that will look
like as more details and guidelines are made available to the district. We hope that all involved
will now have an opportunity to unwind over the next couple months of the summer.

Instruction Update:
• Submissions for all school work closed today at 3:00 p.m. There were no new assignments
issued this week to allow students more time to turn in any make up work they may have
owed for the 4th quarter.

Attention Seniors:
• Due to today’s forecast, the Class of 2020 "Senior Movie" has been moved to Sunday,
June 7th. It will begin 8:30 p.m. at the Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex (3103
Papermill Road, Reading, PA 19610). The presentation will be hosted in a drive-in format,
with a 40' screen and FM sound provided by FunFlicks, Inc. and will last approximately
one hour. Due to limited parking, this is a seniors-only event. We are also asking for
only one car per family and all attendees will be asked to remain in their vehicles at all
times to comply with social distancing requirements.

• Seniors and their families should begin to arrive around 8:10 p.m. This information has
also been posted on the Class of 2020 Schoology page. We thank the Body Zone for hosting
this event for us as well as Redner’s Markets for helping to fund this event for our seniors.

• Please note and plan accordingly: The Body Zone is currently closed and will not be open
for this event; therefore, there will be no restrooms available.

• Commencement is still planned for July 31, 2020. We are hopeful by this date we will be
able to have the entire class together for a full commencement on the football field, where
we can spread our seniors out safely and according to CDC guidelines, and issue a limited
number of tickets for each senior’s family.

• In the event we are not able to hold commencement outside according to the CDC
guidelines, seniors voted for one of three options as a back-up plan over the last three days
during cap & gown distribution. The option that gained the majority of votes by the class
is outlined below:

o Students will sign up for a time slot where they will be able to bring their family
members to watch them have their name announced, walk across the stage of the
high school auditorium and have their photo taken in their cap and gown with their
diploma cover. All student speeches will be recorded and photos of the students in
their cap & gowns will be uploaded to a presentation that will be shared with all
seniors and their families. Students will receive their diploma and then be permitted
to take photos with families outside of the building in the courtyard after they are
finished. Total time commitment: approximately 15 minutes.

• Any students who wish to not participate in commencement in July may pick up their
diplomas after June 5th by appointment at the high school.

Summer Assignment Reminders:
• A reminder that summer assignments are posted on the JSHS website under the “For
Students” header. While many of these assignments are enrichment only for this summer,
some courses (particularly AP courses) have required summer assignments. Students
should be certain to verify which course have required vs. optional summer assignments
via the JSHS website and/or reach out to the teacher of the AP course.

2020-2021 Class Schedules:
• Students entering grades 9-12 are encouraged to pay attention to the “Class of..” pages on
Schoology as well as student e-mails while counselors continue to work on student
schedules for the 2020-2021 school year during the month of June. Students with conflicts
or decisions about electives will be contacted via a Web Ex meeting invitation or e-mail
from the school counselor.

Grades 7-11:
• Students are encouraged to keep their school books, resources, and iPads in a safe place
until further notice. When we are able to host a time for students to come into the
building to hand in their books and other items, a communication will be sent out to all
families.

Lunch/Breakfast:
• Beginning Monday, June 8th we will be continuing our summer meal distribution through
Monday, June 29th at all three buildings, following the same scheduling Monday’s and
Wednesday’s from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. Please note that the same Evans/Girard entrance
will be used at the JSHS for the entire month of June distribution. Our food service team
is very enthusiastic to continue our emergency meal program for the WASD community.
